All the information you need to know when you're asking how to donate my car NJ. How it really works. From picking up your donated car to the tax write off information.
We are the only charity that actually picks up and processes our own vehicles. We do not sell them at auction. We recondition the ones that we can and use the others for parts to repair other donated vehicles.
Here's how the donation works:
We take any car or truck regardless of condition. Running, not running, smashed, blown engine, all these issues and more are no problem. We transport them with a flatbed car carrier, or trailer regardless of condition.
When you call us we make an appointment to pick up the vehicle at your convenience. We can accommodate most any request for specific a day or time. In most cases we can pick up the vehicle on the same or next day.
Our driver will call you before leaving to make certain you are home. He will then come to your home, office, repair shop or where ever you request. He will assist you with cleaning out your car, removing the license plates and filling out the title. The car will be loaded on one of our trucks and taken away.
Once we have possession of the vehicle your responsibility for that vehicle ends there. We are fully insured and the American Children's Society is responsible for the vehicle from that point further.

The new IRS laws regarding the donation of vehicles are as follows (taken from IRS Publication 526, page 8)
If the charity makes a material improvement to the vehicle before it is sold or given to a needy individual the donor is allowed to take fair market value as a deduction. This means if we have to make repairs to your vehicle it qualifies. Most donated vehicles need repairs of some kind.
The IRS also states that if the vehicle is used for a charitable purpose, given or sold to a needy family below fair market value the donor is also allowed to take fair market value as a deduction.
In most cases the IRS considers "Kelley Blue Book - Private Party Value" as fair market value. Check your car donation value at KBB.COM
